Several Overseas Tourist Tips

Europe is a great place to go, so it’s not surprising that you’d like to visit. Here’s ten useful tips to help you get the most out of your European vacation.

1. Decide on a Budget.
A comprehensive budget should include everything – transportation costs, lodging, groceries or restaurants, souvenirs, attractions and even currency exchange. It may be difficult to be sure you’ve covered every possible expense, but do the best you can. Then add a little more for those unexpected expenses that always seem to crop up.

2. Choose when to travel.
To be sure you don’t miss out on anything that might be seasonal, check to see if your destination has a specific tourist “season”. Be sure that you’re booking your vacation during a time you can have the best travel experience. Weather can play a big part in a memorable vacation. So include weather with the rest of your research.

3. Check on the current political atmosphere.
Most countries try to ensure the safety of their tourists. Even so, it’s a wise precaution to acquaint yourself with the current situation, especially if that country has had some political unrest in the past.

4. Do you prefer an unhurried approach to your vacation?
If you like to sleep in and then have an unhurried breakfast, perhaps a guided tour that expects you to be ready to go first thing is not for you. Then, a European cruise might be a good option for you. That way, you could sleep in and still get to visit the ports of call on your time frame. In most cases, cruise ships travel from port to port during the night, so you’ll find yourself in the next port when you awaken. Usually they spend the whole day in port and you can come and go all day just as long as you’re back onboard before they leave for the next port.

5. Don’t put it off.
If this is your dream vacation – do it! Don’t keep putting it off and saying things like “maybe next year”. Avoid regret down the road by including things you’ve always wanted to do and places you’ve always wanted to visit.

6. Sketch out your plan for each day.
Spend the time to determine exactly what you’d like to do each day. That doesn’t mean that every day has to be filled with rushing around. If you want to spend a lazy day around the pool – wonderful! Just make it part of the plan so you’re sure to do it.

It may be tough, but try not to over plan, either. Try not to get caught up in the desire to “do it all” at a particular location. Determine what is most important to you on this particular trip. You can always plan another visit. Above all, remember – this is your vacation. Loosen up!

7. Do your research online.
Using the internet to research your destination makes a lot of sense. There’s lots of free tourist guides available for all kinds of different locations. The internet is becoming our tool-of-choice for finding deals on airfare, rental cars, accommodations, attractions and even travel insurance.

8. Pack as lightly as possible.
Also, be sure that you’re packing appropriately for your destination. Naturally, that will depend a lot of the time of year you plan to travel. Keep it down to items that are actually required. If you’re taking an extended trip, plan to do laundry along the way and choose clothing that can do double-duty. Think layering. Think about how to accessorize your day clothes to make them work for that night on the town. Think light and easy to pack fabrics. If you find you haven’t packed something that you simply can’t do without – buy it when you get there. This is one of the reasons you put aside some emergency spending money – right?

9. Make sure you have all the important stuff organized.
It’s important that you make sure your passport, and any other documents you might need, are up-to-date. Double check that the travel insurance you purchased adequately covers you for your entire trip. Have some local currency available when you arrive at your destination just in case you need it.

10. The most important tip we can give you is to have fun!
That’s what it all about. But, should you encounter some difficulty along the way, try to relax. Odds are everything will work out fine. Remember there’s no such thing as a perfect vacation but something unexpected can lead to a great adventure and wonderful memories.

Bonus tip:
Consider packaged tours in Eastern Europe if you have a limited budget
If you’re time is flexible, look into “last minute” trips – you could realize some amazing savings. Traveling off-season can also increase your savings.
