What To Eat When You Visit Berlin
Berlin’s cuisine is diverse, multicultural and of course, mouth-watering. It has Turkish, Indian, Pakistan, Polish and Czech influences. As well as enjoying the best “Haute Cuisine” ( as in any other big capital ), Berlin offers many preferred and cheap dishes. It is the German town with the largest number of award-winning eateries : if you’re a cuisine sybarite, this is the ideal destination for you. But if you like the popular and reasonable cuisine, don’t be disturbed as you’ll find appropriate food for all tastes and wallets. If you are plannig a visit to Berlin check out our berlijn hotels before your exit.
If you do have time to stop and eat there are 1 or 2 Berlin specialities that local chiefs have created to get away from the standing of stodgy food. Particularly suggested is Entenbraten mit Kraut ; a duck dish served with new potatoes, cabbage and a savoury sauce. Alternatively the Ochsenschwanz mit Lendenfilet, Oxtail with Sirloin steak served with spring vegetables is excellent. Particularly special in Berlin are dishes with wild mushrooms, crayfish and brook eels. For something a bit simpler but the kartoffelsuppe or potato soup is always a winner, as is veal or pork knuckle with cabbage. The normal Berlin cuisine is country and serious : typically, you’ll find homemade recipes served in family environments. Additionally, they serve abundant dishes with a selection of ingredients : potatoes, cabbages, cucumbers, veg, fowl and pork are the base of most recipes.
But what is good old German food? You have got it- sausages, sausages, sausages. Even if you don’t need a sausage, the chances are that what you do desire comes wrapped up in one, so there’s nothing that you can do about it! Book an hotel berlijn if you need to find out Berlin’s cuisine.
If you need to eat the typical German fast food, go to a classic “Imbiss”. This is a street stall where you can purchase some junk food,eg Berlin’s “Bulettes”, all kinds of German sausages or a Turkish Dner Kebab. The Boulette and Dner Kebab arrived in West Berlin in the 60′s with the influx of immigrants. Currywurst sausag, with a lot of ketchup and curry is typically of Berlin, but is consumed across all Germany.
