UK Tours: Obscure Public Houses To Sup In Liverpool
Liverpool’s status as the 2008 European Capital of Culture cemented its place as a permanent fixture on any UK tours that are really worth their salt. The city has experienced a huge surge in popularity among tourists, receiving due recognition for its rich musical, sporting and colonial heritage.
The Philharmonic and The Cavern are the cornerstone of tourist drinking jaunts in Liverpool. These establishments are well worth a visit, especially for those on a limited timescale.
Some on UK tours look to get away from the main tourist hotspots. If this is you, then follow this guide for a few pints off the beaten track on your UK tour’s stop in Liverpool.
The Blob Shop
The Blob Shop can be found directly in front of the main entrance to the Liverpool St Johns Centre. The pub’s atmosphere is second-to-none and it’s busy all day, seven days a week. This pub is great to visit if you’ve got a limited budget, as it’s among the cheapest in Liverpool.
The Grapes
Located just off Hardman Street, it is pubs such as The Grapes that provide the infrastructure in which Liverpool’s unique culture thrives. There is no reason why you can’t expect to see a live folk band in this pub on any night of the week. Sunday is The Grape’s busiest night because it is jazz night. Try and arrive early if you want a good spot at the bar.
The Baltic Fleet
Fans of real ale will be overwhelmed by the range offered by this Liverpool pub when on their UK tour. Games machines, pool tables and juke boxes cannot be found at this pub. This is the place to be if you want good ale, good conversation and friendly locals. The pub is named so because its front end resembles the bow of a ship.
