When You Require An Expedited U.S. Passport
When presented with the opportunity to travel to a foreign country, paper work is the last thing that should get in the way of your trip. If there is little time to prepare, getting an expedited new pasport might become the first step in preparing for the trip. It is important to understand what travel documents are needed for the trip and how long it normally takes to obtain them.
The process of getting your first passport is not difficult if the person takes the time to study what is required of them. There is an official application that is submitted to the proper governmental agency, along with required supporting documents and payment of a fee. These documents include proof of citizenship, some sort of personal identification to prove a match of applicant name and other identifying information, and a copy of that same personal identification. In addition, two color photos are required. For specific details of what are considered acceptable supporting documents, check the issuing agency’s website.
There are at least two ways to speed up the process of passport application. When applying through the standard issuing agency, you’ll have the option to request faster service, for a fee. This allows that application to move to the front of the line for processing purposes. Another option is to utilize the services of a private company to assist in seeing the paperwork through to the end.
When applying to the passport agency for the first time, it is a requirement that the traveler personally appear. Under normal conditions this can take place at a passport agency office, or at what is called an Acceptance Facility, often located at a post office or a local governmental agency. When there is a need to have the passport within a shorter than normal period of time, the individual must make an appointment at a Regional Passport Agency and present all the required paperwork and application at the designated time. In this situation, an extra fee is assessed for the streamlined process.
Another option is to hire a private company to assist you with the application process. Since this is their business, they know how to get it done efficiently, which might be just what you need to ease your mind about getting it completed in time. The company would provide you with detailed instructions of what you need to send them and then they would complete the application process for you. But, don’t get the idea that they can do everything for you. Even when using one of these companies, the applicant still must start the application process by appearing at an Acceptance Facility with the completed paperwork.
The more urgent the need for the passport, the higher the fee paid to the company. Some of these companies advertise that you can expect to receive your passport in 24 hours or up to two weeks. If time is of the essence, this might be the quickest option for your circumstance.
If you have decided that one of these private companies is the best solution to meet your needs, then you must decide which one to select. Some factors to consider when making your choice should include how much you are willing to pay since different companies have higher fees for the same promised service. A key consideration is the reputation of the company, and whether they deliver what they promise. If you are counting on someone to get you what you need without disrupting your travel plans, you want to know that you have selected a reliable company.
The net of this is that the lack of a passport should not be a deterrent to making international travel plans on short notice. There are options available to assist you with meeting your travel goals and submitting your pasport application form. With proper planning and execution, it is certainly possible to obtain an expedited new USA passport in time to take your trip, whether you do it yourself or have help.
